Many lab members attended the ESA conference in Long Beach in August 2024, and we had a blast! Jess, Jessica, Jacob and Leonora (and Fiona!) all gave talks and Denisse presented a poster. The MTM team also organized an oral session on “Understanding functional community assembly over time” with fantastic invited speakers. It was very well-attended and all talks were excellent! Our lab group stayed at a lovely AirBnB by the beach, and biked into the conference together using the city bike program. A few of us took the ferry to Catalina Island on the last day.
Pool party and good bye to Chih-Yun
We had a fun lab pool party, but were sad to say good bye to Chih-Yun and her family
Summer 2024 research team
We welcomed two high school students (Amaya and Katie) and three K-12 teachers (Dawn, Beth, and Erin) into the lab group for summer 2024. Not all are pictured here, but it was great to have their positive energy as part of the team.
In July 2024, Leonora attended MSA as chair of the Karling Committee
Dr. Nancy Keller gave a wonderful talk for the 2024 Karling Lecture at the Mycological Society of America meeting in Toronto.
Post-graduation gathering, summer 2024
In early summer 2024, we had a gathering at Leonora’s house to celebrate Ade & Jessica graduating and also to say goodbye to Chih-Yun who was heading back to Taiwan.
Jessica and Ade graduated May 2024, but didn't leave :)
So happy to have them both stay in our lab longer! Jessica transitioned into a postdoc position and Ade transitioned into the EEB PhD program
Summer 2024 Idaho Conference on Undergraduate Research (ICUR)
Katie, Amaya, Chadwick, Dani, and Maddy all presented research posters at ICUR. Great job to all!
Undergraduate Research Showcase
Our returning C3 VIP students Siena, Miranda, Holly and Mitchell all presented beautiful posters from their research this semester. Maddy also presented a lovely poster from her B2B research!
Congratulations to Jessica for a successful PhD defense!!
Jessica gave a great presentation, and we were all happy to celebrate the first PhD student from our lab group.
Rockhounding!
Big thanks to Denisse for taking our lab group out rockhounding in the Owyhees! It was a beautiful day and we found some cool opal and jasper.
